What is the ‘Board Game Festival’?
This year, the Alliance France of Hong Kong is co-organising with the Canadian and French consulates its first "Board Game Festival", a
special event designed for everyone, to discover some of the most iconic board games in the French-speaking world, while
practising the language.
Players of all ages will be able to discover the must-have modern board games: Sushi Go, Azul, Bandido, Codenames, Just One and
many more!
The festival is open to everyone: French speakers, non-French speakers and learners of French!
Presenters will be on hand throughout the day to explain the games to participants and offer advice.
So, if you're curious, eager to learn some French words, want to meet new people, and most importantly, have fun, we're waiting for
you!
Why Board Games ?
Board games are experiencing unprecedented enthusiasm. Their popularity continues to grow worldwide, across all generations. In fact,
the global board game market is expected to reach nearly $40 billion by 2030! And each year, thousands of new games
are released.
In short, board games have become a major social and economic phenomenon on a global scale. But who is playing what? Where?
- In France, in 2023, nearly 90,000 board game boxes were sold each day,
making it one of the leading European countries in the sector.
Indeed, 91% of the French people play board games regularly.
- In Belgium, the board game sector is experiencing significant growth.
According to industry specialists, sales are expected to increase
by 5 to 10% in the coming years, while the market already represented 12 billion euros in 2023.
- It is therefore not surprising to see a Canadian concept, the board game
café, taking the world by storm. The idea? To share a moment of
enjoyment outside the home, over a drink.

Compétition de Football Francophone
The Consulate of France in Hong Kong and Macao, the Alliance Française and the French-speaking representations in Hong Kong are joining
forces to offer an amateur football competition.
Any school or institution offering French language courses may take part
The aim of this competition is to bring together the various French-speaking learners in the city and to showcase the French
language programmes.
Although it is a competition, the tournament is aimed at amateurs in a festive and friendly atmosphere. Players are
expected to show fair play and good humour.
As part of the Festival dedicated to Women and Francophonie and to break down gender barriers, mixed teams will be
welcome.
Mixed-sex participation in football encompasses all forms of competition in which girls and boys play with and against one another.
Allowing boys and girls to play together contributes to the emancipation of the two genders, improves tolerance and promotes mutual respect.
